PEACE & INSIGHT
The Foundation
This retreat is designed as a doorway into a path that has supported people for millennia in developing ever greater wisdom, compassion, and inner freedom. During the week we will explore three essential parts which together form that path.
How can we live in a way that creates peace and fulfilment, rather than regret?
We will explore how our daily choices of speech and other actions profoundly shape:
the quality of our lives
our relationships
the world around us
Real peace begins with looking at what kinds of speech and other actions lead to our welfare and peace and, crucially, how to overcome the barriers to actually doing them.

PEACE & INSIGHT
The Retreat Experience
For seven days we create a simple, supportive environment dedicated to deep practice and exploration. The retreat will include
DEEP PERSONAL REFLECTION
INQUIRY
GUIDED MEDITATION
SILENT MEDITATION
WALKING & MOVEMENT MEDITATION
INSIGHT SHARING
Weather permitting, some sessions will happen outdoors, including meditation and reflection around the campfire.
This retreat blends several important dimensions:
Silence and simplicity — creating the conditions to observe and understand yourself.
Authentic connection — sharing insights in a caring environment, and walking the path alongside others.
It is suitable for the full range of experience - complete beginner to those with considerable previous meditation and contemplative practice. Because there’s no assumed knowledge, if you’ve never practised before, you’ll get everything you need to get straight into it.
If you’re an experienced practitioner - perhaps with multi-week retreats under your belt - you’ll get to interact with dimensions of the practice in ways you may never have encountered before. The retreat is designed to give you the conditions to grow from whatever level of depth and insight you currently have.
While we will draw from teachings on training the heart and mind from the historical Buddha, you do not need to be Buddhist. As with all Vimutti offerings, this retreat is suitable for anyone from any background, religion or belief.

PEACE & INSIGHT
A Typical Day
The retreat follows a full daily rhythm from early morning until evening, designed to support gradual deepening. If you’re not usually an early riser, you’ll get to experience the loveliness of the dawning day, and the amazing momentum that you get from starting the day early.
6:00am First morning session
7:30am Breakfast
8:45am Second morning session
11.30am Lunch

Food
Selgars works closely with local farms and regenerative chefs to provide healthy, delicious, seasonal, locally sourced plant-based meals. They serve food that is energising and nutritionally balanced. Selgars also try to use as much produce grown on their land as possible. To best support deepening of practice, there will be two meals in the morning (breakfast and lunch) and afternoon tea/drinks with optional fruit. If you’ve never done it, eating lightly (or not at all) after the lunch period may sound a bit daunting, but your body will get used to it quickly, and you’ll soon experience the amazing benefits - mental and physical - of doing so.
The retreat registration form will give you the opportunity to state any allergies and medical needs.
Retreat Location
The retreat will take place at Selgars, a beautiful retreat venue in the Devon countryside. Surrounded by nature, Selgars provides a peaceful environment for meditation, reflection, community, and simplicity.
Rideshares & Carpools: To make travel easier (and reduce our collective carbon footprint), we will help coordinate rideshares and carpools. A few weeks before the retreat, we’ll send a simple form and shared document where participants can offer or request rides.

PEACE & INSIGHT
Your Retreat Leaders
Together bringing over 75 years of transformational and contemplative experience.

Paul is co-founder of Vimutti. He has practised meditation and the Buddha’s teachings for over 25 years, studying with leading teachers across Asia, Europe, and the US. His practice has included extended periods practising in monasteries and forest settings, and ordination as a monk in India.
Alongside his contemplative practice, Paul has spent 3 decades working internationally in education, leadership development, and social change — supporting young people, educators, impact leaders, and senior executives to develop greater wisdom, self-awareness, and positive impact.
His work has included co-creating with Ron the 100 Hours programme for young adults; co-developing a changemaker curriculum for the UN Global Education First initiative; and creating SQ and EQ programmes in education.
Paul’s teaching focuses on bringing deep contemplative practice into modern life — helping people cultivate greater clarity, wisdom, compassion, and inner freedom.

Ron is co-founder of the Santidhamma Foundation, dedicated to reducing suffering and cultivating wisdom, peace, and freedom through contemplative practice.
Ron has spent over 35 years practising and teaching the Buddha’s path, including 6 cumulative years in intensive meditation retreat and a total of 7 years living as a Buddhist monastic in Asia and the United States.
With a doctorate in clinical psychology, Ron has spent his life integrating deep contemplative wisdom with modern psychology, leadership development, and human transformation. He has trained more than 10,000 people through transformational programmes and guided leaders, organisations, and communities around the world. Together with Paul, Ron co-created the 100 Hours programme in South Africa and India.
Ron’s teaching focuses on the practical cultivation of wisdom and compassion — helping people understand their own minds and live with greater clarity, freedom, and benefit to others.
FREE
Cost
Vimutti retreats are offered freely. These deep teachings and practices have been offered without charge for two and a half thousand years because, in truth, what price could be put on our peace and freedom from suffering? The retreat is made possible through generosity (dāna): the support of people who value this work and want others to benefit.
